This is sad. Are people really so very afraid of what it is to be human, to imagine, to experience complicated longing. It is different than acting on it, that is the whole point, to recognize all that goes into being human and to be at times messed up, to understand what internal forces are at work, and to then choose to act in a way that reflectes your actual values. Psychoanalysis talks about “the return of the repressed” - if you are always afraid of yourself and repressing so much, you will be even more likely to act out in some way at some point.

Whenever I see anything like this my first thought is that @thebibliosphere will know what these words mean.

Unfortunately, you would be correct.

“Vampire facials”, which many people think is needling but is actually far, far worse, refers to platelet-rich plasma facials, in which blood is taken from a patient, processed in a centrifuge to extract the plasma and then re-injected it into the face. It’s supposed to make the skin “heal” itself because of platelets or some shit, giving you a more youthful look. Kim K helped make it popular after it was on her show but I know she also supposedly regrets it.

It’s uh, controversial to say the least. And not just because it sounds like painful bullshit but because lack of regulation for this sort of thing has lead to a couple of cases of HIV transmission happening.

The penis version is that they’re doing the exact same thing, taking plasma from themselves or a donor and injecting it into the penile tissue, supposedly to treat erectile dysfunction, but a lot of the men doing this are doing it just to get a girthier look.

And if you think I hate knowing all this, you’d be right.

A woman whose epilepsy was greatly improved by an experimental brain implant was devastated when, just two years after getting it, she was forced to have it removed due to the company that made it going bankrupt.

Specifically, because she couldn’t afford to buy the implant from the company. They basically took her implant back to recoup their losses. This is what happens when you privatize healthcare and health research. The group providing her with this implant should not have been able to go bankrupt in the first place, let alone repossess her implant to pay off their debts.

This is what disabled people mean when we say that cyberpunk horror is just a reality for us. This woman was literally forced to undergo a surgery because she couldn’t pay to keep the implant already inside her brain. How long till companies start repossessing pacemakers and transplants?

every artist who has ever attempted to satirize masculinity i am so sorry

you could name a movie Portrait of a delusional abuser ruining his own life in pursuit of a fictional standard of manhood and 89% of its fanbase would still be like “Fuck yeah man it was so cool when Shit Cumdick gave that badass speech about how pushing everyone away and never letting yourself feel emotions is actually a good idea for your life. fuckin dope flick”

watching people on tiktok consume borax is uh. something.

having to say “don’t eat borax” was not on my 2023 bingo

Can’t believe in the year 2023 we have to say: do not consume borax. It will not provide a “parasite cleanse”, it does not combat the “evil fluoride” in your water, and it is not a super mineral. It will damage your organs. Also, it’s not rated for human consumption so frankly, who knows what it’s cross-contaminated with (my personal bet would be arsenic).

Hunter x Hunter is like this is Alluka her incredibly abusive family that doesn’t treat her like a human refers to her as a boy but Killua, the only member of her family that loves & cares about her, explicitly refers to her as his little sister. & some fans are still like What could Togashi have possibly meant by this. We will never know
